I fell in love with Burt’s Bees lip balm the first time I used it, so it was exciting to see they launched a line of skin care products especially for acne prone skin. I had big expectations for their moisturizer.
Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Lotion sells for less than $20, but the glass bottle gives the impression of a more expensive product. Plus, it is full of luxurious sounding ingredients like lemongrass, goldenseal extract, and sunflower seed oil. While these might not improve acne, they do lend a sumptuous aura to the lotion.
Those looking to go “green” with their skin care products will be glad to know this moisturizer doesn’t contain sulfates, parabens, or petrochemicals. It does contain salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid that can help improve breakouts.
Although the lotion feels lightweight when applied, it absorbs slowly. Until it does, it leaves a slightly sticky feel on the skin.
The smell was a bit of a turn-off, too — like a bitter lemon.
If your skin is at all irritated or dry, this wouldn’t be a good moisturizer choice. It can sting tender skin. If you’re currently using a drying acne medication, you’ll get better results with a more gentle product, like Purpose moisturizer.
Even though it’s not a perfect product, folks who gravitate toward a “green” beauty routine will be mostly happy with this lotion.
