I tried the zinc back in September of ’09. When I initially decided to give the zinc a shot, I figured I should pick up copper too. I did this because I heard zinc could compete with copper absorption. So, I would take 30mg of zinc in the day, and 2 mg of copper at night, in addition to 1600mg fish oil a day.

Exactly two weeks later, I noticed I had loss A LOT of hair. I literally lost about 40% of my hair. However, I did not relate the two at the time. I thought it was because I got off the NuvaRing 3 months prior (tried it for 2 months) and it was a weird response from coming off the BC. So I continued on with supplementation. I was still having the usual minor breakouts though, especially before my period.

Anyway, I had stopped the zinc/copper supplementation in November and my skin still looked great. Then, in December, I thought I should pick up some zinc/copper again, to add to the health and clearness of my skin. I had also switched to natural products and stopped BP. Three weeks later, I noticed more breakouts than usual. But I continued on all the way up until now. I eliminated all possible culprits, restored my old regimen and I’m STILL breaking out badly. Recently, in stranger places where I have never broken out before, like my neck, forehead and a bit on the scalp. All that’s left is the zinc and my newly added probiotics. I am going to stop the zinc & see if things clear up.

The verdict is still out whether or not zinc has been working for me. It is true that everyone’s physiological makeup is different, so maybe it could work for you. But I think I’m going to stop self-medicating and just eat healthier. I realize that it’s not really smart to put synthetic minerals/vitamins in your body if you don’t know where your levels currently are through a
